Field Trip to Mt. Tateyama

 Mt. Tateyama 2014

The 29th of April, 2014 was a public holiday (Showa-no-hi) in Japan and 135 students from the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences and the School of Future Learning as well as the Japanese Language used this opportunity to visit Mt. Tateyama, one of the three sacred and spiritual mountains of Japan. The other two being Mt. Fuji (having just recently being designated a World Heritage Site) and Mt. Hakusan in Ishikawa Prefecture. This area sees snow of up to 20m pile up and bulldozers used to clear a path from Tateyama station to Murodo, the base camp of Mt. Tateyama. Students and teachers enjoyed the relatively ideal weather to walk around and enjoy the scenery as well as the natural hot springs located around Murodo. Some were able to spot the Grouse bird, or Raicho in Japanese (literally "Thunder Bird") roaming among the mountain pine.
